Birth Photography ~ from behind the lens

May 23, 2016

A nod to one of my Granddad’s favourite poems by Rudyard Kipling, which I enjoyed re-writing from a birth photographer’s perspective…

if you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and breathing gas and air,

If you can trust yourself when situations are doubtful

Hold a hand and soothe her hair

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

For a call to serve day or night

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To keep on shooting without fear or fright...

If you can fill the last unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of your best

As baby tumbles from his mother,

And is placed upon her breast

If you can shoot straight and witness miracles

Yet down camera and give strength to lend,

Yours is the labour and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – you’ll be a Birth Photographer, my friend.

I will record, for all time, your baby’s first breath as they enter the world, the very first moment you glimpse your newborn baby, the first astonished expressions from dad, the tears, the relief, joy and amazement as you hold and adore your perfect bundle – and the moment you become a mother, a father and a family.

Please get in touch if you are considering Birth Photography for your baby's birthday.
